This site divides the history of American cinema up by decades and lists what its writer, Tim Dirks, considers to be the stand out productions on a year by year basis with in-depth descriptive accounts of many of the films. Downside is the plethora of pop-up advertisements.

Film International
Film International started in 1973 as Filmhäftet in Sweden. In 2003 the journal changed its name to Film International and became an all-English edition. Itfocuses on in-depth-analysis, but it also features interviews, festival reports and an extensive review section on books, special DVD editions and films at the cinema.

A sub-section of The Palace Classic Films site with short articles on a variety of classic noir films.

UK-based site specialising with extended review-articles on recent publications in the fields of film theory and philosophical aesthetics. Not the easiest site to navigate but a wealth of material for the academically-oriented film student

A educational resource intended to encourage scholarly discussion of cinema history and uses of the media. Diverse bibliographical, research, and teaching aids are available
