About our reviewers and our review philosophy

Cinephilia is divided into two main parts; The Big Screen, which has a synopsis and a fairly detailed review of current releases, and Cinefile, an alphabetical listing of a wide variety of films, all with thumbnail reviews. Some of these have a more expansive review accessible.

Films are listed alphabetically, omitting pronouns. Thus, The Flight of the Phoenix will be found under F. This arrangement also applies to foreign films. Sometimes foreign films are listed by their English titles if they are better known by that.

Many of the films in Cinefile have been seen on TV, video or DVD. Sometimes the loss of scale and consequent changes in the viewing experience will distort the value of the film in question, particularly films that are strongly visual. We have tried to be aware of this problem. On the other hand, sometimes the fast forward button can be a wonderful thing.
