Toy Story

A wonderful film for anyone of any age, with great characters, sassy dialogue (Tom Hanks and Tim Allen are thoroughly effective "in" the lead roles), an inventive and engaging story and catchy Randy Newman songs. All up, a perfectly-crafted work that is beguiling not just for its extraordinary computer animation that mimics human movement and facial expression with remarkable accuracy but perhaps because the characters are toys, tapping into one of the great mythic storylines from Pinocchio to the Golem - the investing of the inanimate with life, and the fact that the whole thing is delivered with a cleverly tongue-in-cheek cheesy 50s gee-shucks wholesomeness.
